Fishing Bendigo
The heart of Bendigo is filled with lots of family fishing opportunities, with popular fishing spots including Kennington Reservoir, Crusoe Reservoir, Lake Neanger, Tom Thumb and Lake Weeroona. These locations are great for targeting rainbow trout, brown trout, redfin, silver perch and carp.

Flanking the outskirts of Bendigo are two major river systems, the Campaspe and Loddon Rivers. Both rivers are less than 30 minutes from the heart of Bendigo and are the perfect location to target our iconic freshwater species, the Murray Cod and Golden Perch.

Lake Eppalock, located on the Campaspe River System, is a popular fishing destination with accommodation and camping opportunities available at a number of holiday parks. Lake Eppalock holds a large population of Golden Perch with some trophy species pushing the 70cm mark often caught from the lake. Other species often targeted in the lake include Murray Cod, Redfin and Carp.

The Campaspe River downstream of Lake Eppalock holds a large population of Murray Cod and Golden Perch. Axedale, English’s Bridge, Avonmore Bridge and Elmore Weir are great spots to target these fish on foot, with boat access and camping available at Ayson’s Reserve.

Cairn Curran is on the Loddon River, located on the outskirts of Maldon and Newstead. The lake is popular for chasing Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Redfin, Trout and Carp. Accommodation and camping options are available at Welshman’s Reef, Baringhup and Picnic Point for those wishing to extend their stay at the lake.

Downstream of Cairn Curran holds a good population of Murray Cod with some trophy fish over the metre mark frequently caught in the system as well as Golden Perch. There is great boat access in this section including access at Laanecoorie Reservoir, Laanecoorie-Loddon River Recreation Reserve, Bridgewater and Serpentine. Newbridge and the Loddon Weir at Fernihurst are also great spots to access the river from the bank.
