Aussie lure anglers love the original Ambush - a unique design in the swimbait rod world. But ultimately it became clear that everything the original rod does so well, also can and needs to be done with a lighter lure. Enter the new ‘Light’ model!

With a large sweet spot for a range of smaller 1oz to 2oz+ lures for big fish such as barra and cod, you can cast your favourites at big fish with confidence, knowing that the 702L model has plenty of that Ambush firepower to take it to the fish!

With this lighter model we’re incorporating the G-Clutch handle for the ultimate in feedback and comfort! Based on an innovative new reel seat design that is totally minimalist - in fact the reel seat has uninterrupted blank exposure underneath - the sensitivity is off the charts! And there are absolutely no exposed locking hoods, nuts or threaded sections either. So it comes to hand so comfortably it’s actually difficult to feel where the handle finishes and the blank starts!

In the hand, this rod is light in weight with an amazing balance point, creating a rod that is a pleasure to use even for long sessions.

The Ambush 702L has a fast but smooth and progressive action, so when casting or fighting, the curve will continue to deepen as more pressure is applied. This makes it easy to cast and easier on hook holds.

At 7’0” length, the 702L is very accurate to cast around lake edges and structure, and will also get good distance and very importantly, is much easier to control the lure for a soft landing which is so important for fishing open water around the boat.

Blank construction is the new ‘Armour 40-5’. This all new blank technology is the ultimate in blank reinforcement that runs from butt to tip – the optimal solution to create a more robust blank while maintaining the Millerods benchmarks of lightweight sensitivity!

The multi-guide train features 11 guides plus tip-top in the tried and trusted Alconite ceramic. This further enhances the smooth action, and provides exceptional line control.

Of course, our custom exclusive anti-tangle hook keeper will be there at hand to keep your lure at the ready, but otherwise virtually disappears.

The ergonomic G-Clutch handle also features extra-firm EVA to transfer energy and avoid hand fatigue, while the EVA butt cap allows the angler to leverage the rod against the body when fighting big fish. This is one heck of a finesse weapon for the swimbait anglers!

^Millerods recommends the use of the FG knot for connecting braided fishing lines to monofilament leaders. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.
