Trellys Fishing Report 26th June 2026
Trellys Fishing Report 26th June 2026
While the fishing may have slowed down for many anglers, us die hard fishermen are still out there catching fish.
Before I go into my fishing reports, I want to explain the water situation.
Lake Hume is currently around 4% lower than it was at this time last year but is rising steadily, and best of all it is rising from rain runoff, not from water being released from Lake Dartmouth as it was at this time last year.
Lake Dartmouth is the same level as this time last year and both catchments are experiencing good runoff.
Lake Nillahcootie is about the same level as this time last year and rising slowly.
Lake Eildon is rising slowly but is around 17% lower than this time last year.
Lakes Eppalock and Cairn Curran are rising slowly but are 10% and 20% lower than last year respectively.
The point that I am making is that while we still need a lot of rain, we are in a pretty good position. Some spots are a bit worse off than last year and some places, such as the Murray River are looking better than they did at this time last year.
With more rainfall in the forecast for next week things are looking pretty good for spring and summer.
Now to the fishing reports. Apart from my own adventures, fishing reports have been a bit harder to come by lately which is why I decided to write a piece about the current position of water storages.
Also, I have reached out a bit further than normal to find reports this week.
Goulburn River
There have been a few fish caught in the Goulburn River this week. These are the exact words that were sent to me by a friend in Shepparton:
“Crayfish being caught in the Goulburn River upstream of Shepparton. The water is a little bit dirty. Cod have been caught on cheese in the same area if you can get out. Yellowbelly caught at Lake Nagambie on small yabbies and worms under the willow trees”.
Ovens River
The Ovens River is very high but is now slowly going down. My friend Sonny and I have been fishing and crayfishing in the Ovens in Wangaratta.
We have been catching plenty of crayfish in our cray nets and on our fishing rods.
I have been catching my crayfish on chicken drumsticks, and on worms intended for finned fish.

Speaking of finned fish, there seems to be an abundance of small trout cod in the Ovens River at the moment.
I manage to catch one or two every time I head out.
Blue Rock Dam
My friend Hanno from Noojee Bush Goods in Noojee has been catching heaps of fish at Blue Rock Dam this week.
Hanno has been catching redfin, bass, carp and trout in the dam. His fish have been caught on a combination of both bait and lures.

Hanno has been catching quite a few stocked rainbow trout that were put there by the Victorian Fisheries Authority recently.
Northern NSW And New England Region
The rivers of Northern NSW and the New England region have been fishing very well lately.
Kade Bush has been cleaning up in that area recently catching a 63cm, 71cm and 80cm all in one day on a Blue Dog Lure.
