Trellys Fishing Report

Bendigo Fishing Report – Week Ending June 19, 2025
Lake Eppalock
Lake Eppalock remains at 57.5% capacity. Perseverance remains the key to catching fish in such cold waters. Make sure to carry some deep-diving hard body trolling lures, as well as vibes and soft plastics to maximize your chances of hooking up with redfin, golden perch, or even a cod.Trolling and Jigging in around 10m of water remain the best way to get a Bite.
Campaspe River
Water levels in the Campaspe had a bounce earlier in the week up to 2.1m and then back down to 1.8m in the days following, flow rates reflected this hitting up to 364ML/day and then back down to 150ML/day after. If you’re heading out with bait, heavier sinkers are still a smart choice we suggest in the event of some increased flow on the water though.
For cod anglers, give the surface lures a try first and last light each day and in the daytime, deep diving Hardbody lures around 80mm and the old faithful Bassman "Codman" spinnerbaits. – focus on casting near snags and work the retrieve slowly.
Want to give fishing bait a try? Give chicken or grubs (we stock!) a try and look for those deeper pools or bends in the river/creek where fish might be holding up.
Cairn Curran Reservoir
Cairn Curran remains at 38.8% capacity dropping from 39.8% last week..
Fishing has been patchy, yet we’re still getting word of the occasional nice Murray Cod and golden perch. Trolling hardbody medium-diving lures in the 6–8m range over the reservoir, and near the wall in the Loddon River, trolling Jackall TN60’s is our recommendation..
Further downstream, spinnerbaits have been doing well too – Bassman’s “Codman” lure is still going strong, and don’t forget we’re running our Buy 2, Get 1 Free promo in-store while stocks last!
Loddon River
Flow levels at the Loddon have remained inconsistent with a few small spikes and dropps happening throughout the week, but now back to a consistent 0.46m level – the same as last week at this time.
Fishing conditions mirror those on the Campaspe. We’re still seeing best results from bait fishing using chicken and grubs, particularly in the deeper holes and areas with decent structure. If you’re using lures, keep them close to cover and work them slow – the colder temps mean fish are less aggressive.
Bridgewater continues to be a worthwhile destination. If you’re heading out that way, swing past the shop and grab a few Codger or Oldmate lures. Fish have been active along the banks near the caravan park, and it’s a perfect excuse to finish your day with a feed or a drink at the Bridgewater Hotel.
Serpentine also got some good reports lately, as trollers of spinnerbaits and hardbodies are catching some good fish.
Torrumbarry
Although the weather on the long weekend was not ideal, some determined anglers were rewarded at Torrumbarry with some quality cod and yellowbelly. The numbers were not huge, but the quality made up for it. If heading in that direction, try rigging up with larger soft plastics like the Spinwright swim jigs,Bassman Scopebaits or if trolling, use something like the Old Mate 25ft diver. Try targeting the large snag piles out wide of the bank in 6m+ of water with 80+ mm divers or Swimjigs.

June Fishing Update – Big Stockings, Cod Behaviour, and Native Species Revival
There's plenty of good news from the Goulburn Valley this month. From endangered species making a comeback to fresh insights into Murray cod movement, here's everything fishos in the region need to know:
🐟 Catfish Are Coming Back!
Over 10,000 freshwater catfish have been released across 22 locations in northern Victoria to help restore native fish populations – including the Goulburn River, Campaspe River, Broken Creek, and Loddon River.
✅ Goulburn River received 828 catfish
✅ Campaspe River – 1,035 stocked
✅ Loddon River – 895 stocked
✅ A joint effort with Traditional Owners, CMAs, and rec fishers is helping bring this species back from the brink.
🎣 The Secret Life of Murray Cod
New tracking data from Lake Eildon and the Upper Goulburn River shows how cod behave year-round:
-
Cod prefer deeper water in winter and shallows at night in summer
-
They’re most active around 20°C, particularly at dawn and dusk
-
The first major rain event of the season can trigger movement into upstream arms
-
Some cod return to their home spots even after relocation – strong site fidelity!
🐠 Stocking Update: Millions Released!
Victoria stocked a record 4+ million Murray cod this season – with over 9.5 million native and salmonid fish stocked across the state so far.
Goulburn Valley waters have already received their early trout allocations for winter/spring.
🎣 Community Fishing Vibes
Two great events ran recently in the region:
-
Goulburn Valley Congolese Association: Ran a fishing skills day at Lake Victoria, introducing new community members to rec fishing.
-
Kyabram Anglers Club: Hosted a "Come Try Fishing" day – 78 kids registered and many caught their first fish!
🛶 Quick River Notes:
-
Lake Eildon: Still producing solid cod – focus deep during cold spells.
-
Campaspe & Loddon Rivers: Catfish released, spinnerbaits still doing well on cod.
-
Broken Creek & Gunbower Creek: Expect stronger native presence this winter with catfish added.
