Trellys Fishing Report

Trellys Fishing Report

Corio Bay

The Bay has seemed a little quite this past week with reports being very hit and miss with anglers but Australian Salmon was one thing that remained pretty consistent with plenty of spot fire bust ups across Clifton Springs with birds diving and fishing splashing around. When they are like this they will practically eat anything you throw in the water but ideally a 3 inch minnow profile soft plastic or metal lure.

Bellarine Peninsula

Around to St Leonards has seen some great whiting fishing this past week with anglers having great success landing bag limit captures with fish to 43cm on offer. Fishing the tides with fresh or frozen squid is ideal. Burley definitely helps to and if you sit a bigger bait behind the bot you can expect some solid flathead to pick it up too.

Offshore

The offshore barrel bite is still going pretty good with reports still rolling through but due to poor weather it has made it a little difficult to get out. Keen angles have been finding small gaps in the weather and have been getting amongst the action with still plenty of fish to well over 100kg on offer. Reece and Steve got out for a crack and after unfortunately losing one early in the morning they were rewarded for their efforts landing one that came in at 110kg cleaned.

Barwon River

The Barwon River has remained a very popular location for anglers this week with the Trevally still going nuts! Soft plastics are working very well for them at the moment with small curl and paddle tails doing the damage. Plenty of scent has been helping a lot too. There has also been a TONE of salmon in the system, most of them are just around that legal size mark although Michael Stavropoulos landed one that went 63cm which is a monster for this system!

Wurdi Buloc

Wurdi Buloc has been a popular location again this week with Redfin on Fire! The rockwall has been fishing very well for anglers throwing soft plastics and spoon type lures with fish to over 40cm on offer. Anglers have also been picking up some nice numbers of trout also.

Kialla Lakes

We have had a few good reports of Redfin being caught shallow this past week.Casting 2 or 3 inch soft plastics along the rocky banks has been the best way to target the Redfin. If you can’t get them on a slow roll, try a long pause and just a rod shake while the lure sits on the bottom. If you can find some weeds near these rock walls target those areas as they normally hold fish. Bait fishing has also been a great method chasing the Redfin lately with worms being the best bait. Fish them either under a float right near the drop off or rigged with a super light sinker and dropped near the willow trees.

Mooroopna Rec Reserve Lake

A couple of Mooroopna locals have reported back to us that the trout are on the bite in the small lake. Floating worms or powerbaits around the weeds has been the stand out way to target these trout with a lot of fish feeding on the weed edge. It’s a great little lake to fish with small shallow divers or Jerkbaits and a great little technique is just a slow roll with a reasonable high rod to keep the lures off the bottom with the divers. Jerkbaits it’s all about the pause with plenty of trout being caught this way.

Lake Eildon

There were some solid fish caught this past week at Eildon with both lures and bait working well for cod. Casting swimbaits such as the Baitsanity Explorer Gill or the Jackall Gantarel has been a great way to chase the bigger fish around the 70/90cm range. The real big ones this week have been reported on bigger plastic lures such as the Biwaa’s or Magdrafts in sizes ranging from 8 to 10 inches. Those trolling near the wall have been reporting plenty of smaller cod with the Balista Dyno working great as well as the 25ft Old Mate. Bait fishing with chicken has been a productive way to chase cod also this week with reports of some solid night time fish being caught off the banks. Trout yet again have been active with some good reports coming in from the Bonnie Doon area with tassie devils in orange or pink having the most success. Dave Bell with a solid cod caught at Eildon recently, check out "Fishing With DJB" on You tube or Tik Toc for more info on how he caught this great looking fish
