Trellys Fishing Report 15th May 2026
Fishing reports are getting harder to come by as the weather continues to cool down.
Generally speaking, the fishing has slowed down a lot but there are still plenty of fish being caught by those of us who don’t play football, hunt deer or snow ski.
Here is a round up of where the fish have been biting this week…
Loddon River
The Loddon River continues to fish very well this week with a number of very large Murray cod being caught.
These fish are being caught in a few areas however it is the Serpentine and Bridgewater areas that seem to be the most consistent.
I have seen photos of 3 Murray cod over the 100cm mark caught there over the last week on both lures and bait.
Marc Sibun caught an absolute beauty on a chicken fillet at Bridgewater.

Lake Hume
I fished Lake Hume a few days ago. Fishing off the bank at the Ebden Reserve (Well, about 500 meters in from the bank because the water is so low) I managed to catch half a dozen redfin and 2 carp.
Pelicans made light work of the two carp, and 4 of the 6 redfin came home with me. They were actually quite nice fish with the biggest one being over 30cm long.
Both carp and 2 of the redfin were caught on Jan Juc Worms, and the other 4 redfin, including the biggest one, were all caught on a TT Switchblade.
Goulburn River
Overall, fishing reports for the Goulburn River seem hard to come by at the moment. I do know that there have been a few trout caught way up high in the headwaters of the Goulburn River in the Gaffneys Creek area. These fish were not caught in the Goulburn River itself, but in an unnamed tributary.
Just below Lake Eildon there have been some decent sized brown trout caught. Gerard Cooney caught 4 lovely brown trout in 2 hours on the Goulburn River at Thornton with the biggest reported to have been 2.56kg.

Further downstream (I’m not sure exactly where) Alex Paydon has been doing very well catching quite a few Murray cod in the Goulburn River on a hard body diving lure.
Ovens River
To be honest, at this point I have no Ovens River fishing reports to go off other than my own.
I have not been lure fishing at all, but I have been doing quite a bit of bait fishing at sunset.
Apart from the odd carp, it has been very slow fishing during the day. Once the sun sets things have been picking up and I have been catching quite a few fish after dark.
I have caught quite a few small trout cod and Murray cod and also picked up a lovely little Macquarie perch upstream of Wangaratta during the week.
Most of my fish have been caught on worms, but I have caught a couple of cod on cheese.
Mildura
The Murray River has been fishing quite well in the Mildura area, but sadly most of the fish caught have been carp.
There have been a few Yellowbelly and Silver perch in the mix, so it is worth trying but just be prepared to work your way through a few carp in between your native fish.
Thankfully carp are fun to reel in too.
